"Sheep's Wool" was written for the Emerging Jazz Artist Series at Indiana University. The interlude section after the piano solo was written first, with the rest of the piece being based on this melodic material. The overall feel of the piece is taken from the Jazz Messengers. This recording features Aaron Bannerman on trumpet, myself on trombone, Alejandro Bernard-Papachryssanthou on piano, Anna Butterss on bass, and Ben Lumsdaine on drumset.
"Little Sunflower" was arranged for the 2013 Emerging Jazz Artist Series at Indiana University. My goal with this arrangement was to stay true to the melody and have it be recognizable to the listener while at the same time present the piece in a different light or mood than is maybe typical. The chart features some moderate reharmonizations and meter changes but still retains a bit of its modal vibe. Featured on this recording is Aaron Bannerman on trumpet, myself on trombone, Alejandro Bernard-Papachryssanthou on piano, Anna Butterss on bass, and Ben Lumsdaine on drumset.
"When I Fall In Love" is an arrangement done for the University of Illinois Jazz Trombone Ensemble on the popular Victor Young melody "When I Fall In Love." In addition to myself on trombone, this recording features Andy Boostrom and Josh Torrey on trombone, Michael Mueller on piano, Michael Saigh on bass, and Matt Endres on drum set.
"Fra Mauro" is an original composition that was done in 2010 for a composition course at the University of Illinois. The piece was inspired by the compositional style of Maria Schneider, particularly her work "Sea of Tranquility." "Fra Mauro" features Chris Bucher on Baritone Saxophone and Ben Sampson on trumpet.
